Junior Software Developer & IT Support

Type: Full-Time
Reports to: DevOps Lead

About the Role

We’re looking for a Junior Software Developer & IT Support specialist to join our growing team. In this hybrid role, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the software stack — building internal and external tools, contributing to infrastructure, and supporting day-to-day IT needs. You’ll work directly under the DevOps Lead and play a key part in developing systems that support both product development and our broader tech ecosystem goals. This is a rare chance to wear many hats and grow into multiple disciplines, especially if you’re passionate about open source, right to repair, and the future of tech.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain full-stack web applications (Python/TS backend, basic frontend)
  • Help design and deploy infrastructure using Docker, and tools like Terraform
  • Assist with IT operations: setting up workstations, configuring servers, managing access controls, etc.
  • Help rebuild and manage physical hardware (bare-metal servers, etc.)
  • Participate in CI/CD setup, monitoring, and general DevOps workflows
  • Collaborate with other technical teams and departments when needed
  • Learn and grow in areas like DevOps, automation, and scalable systems

What You Bring

  • A working knowledge of Python, TypeScript and general programming principles
  • Comfort with the Linux command line, Git, and basic shell scripting
  • Eagerness to learn Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools
  • A problem-solving mindset and willingness to support both dev and IT tasks
  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and an interest in open source, repairability, or startup culture

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Flask, FastAPI, NPM, TypeScript or other web frameworks.
  • Simple frontend work (HTML, JS, basic UI)
  • Backend tools (SQL, NoSQL, Grafana)
  • Networking, sysadmin, or rebuilding machines from scratch

Opportunities:

  • Get direct mentorship from the DevOps Lead
  • Work in a major tech city surrounded by open-source advocates and startup talent
  • Be part of a mission-driven team that supports right to repair and sustainable tech
  • Help bridge the gap between open source contributions and real-world monetization

Location:

FUTO is based in Austin, Texas. This is an on-site role and we offer relocation assistance.

Benefits:

  • Medical and dental insurance
  • 401k matching
  • Bonuses based on company performance
